Sun block please:

While most of us want to achieve a “healthy tan”, newsflash, there’s no such thing. As a matter of fact, a tan is the skin’s way of trying to protect itself from the sun’s rays. Harmful UVA and UVB rays are responsible for premature aging and skin cancers. I cannot stress enough the importance of daily broad spectrum sunscreen use, even on rainy days and winter months.

Use Peptides:

Peptides are protein fragments, without them, the skin doesn’t remain resilient, and research has shown that peptides can help revitalize your skin. As always, don’t get wrapped up in one single ingredient, the key is to use a product with a cocktail of quality ingredients.

Microneedling uses tiny needles, ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 mm in length, to stimulate collagen. As the needles create microchannels in the skin, the body responds by healing itself, creating more collagen. This process occurs almost immediately. At SD Aesthetics we use DermaFrac, for its safety and predictable results.
Along with 180 micro needles, it combines other rejuvenating technologies to infuse powerful serums into the skin. Specific ingredients are selected to target your skin’s concerns:

As always treatments are customized, however, we suggest series of 6 to 10 , administered every 1 to 2 weeks, followed by a monthly or bimonthy maintenance. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which damage cell structure, giving way to aging skin and other skin conditions. Even though cell damage is inevitable, antioxidants can slow down this process. Any chemicals that can interfere with free radical damage, has antioxidant properties.  Antioxidants work wonders in skin products to have your skin glowing, but most importantly, they are also found in foods, therefore, a diet for glowing skin should contain an array of antioxidants.
• Fatty acids: These fats are important to keep the skin barrier strong and hydrated. Find them in:
Salmon, mackerel, avocados, and walnuts.
• Vitamin E: Especially when combined with vitamin C, seems to be more effective. Vitamin E is also an antioxidant to aid in oxidative damage. Find vitamin E in:
Almonds, kale, spinach, wheat germ oil, and broccoli.

Remember, free radicals basically cause damage to cells. Catechins, found in green tea have also become very popular throughout the last few years. Not only may it prevent some chronic diseases, but skin aging as well. This is specially true in black tea.

What Causes Skin to Age

It’s really difficult to pinpoint what really causes aging. In general, genetics and lifestyle factors are responsible. We often hear the word AGE’s, short for advanced glycation endproducts.

These glycation endproducts, increase as we age, and they have a big impact on skin aging. They are a cause for some chronic diseases as well.

Asides from exacerbating skin conditions, they also increase skin wrinkling and stiffness, inflammation, sagging, and uneven skin tone.

Fortunately, there are ways to slow down the process. Simple lifestyle changes can help the body fight them off and prevent too many.

• Cut down on sugars, like candy and cakes, which lead to glycation.

• Choose the right kind of fats, such as olive oil and cold water fish to reduce inflammation and help maintain a strong skin barrier.

• Protect your skin from the sun, by using SPF 30, daily, and use antioxidants like vitamin C and E, and collagen stimulating ingredients like retinoids.

• Watch your alcohol intake.

• Stay away from smoking! Not only does smoking deprive the skin from oxygen, but it creates more free radical damage.

• Boost your antioxidant intake, such as berries, turmeric, and brightly colored veggies, avoiding smoked or highly processed foods.

And lastly but not least, simply follow a skin care routine.
